Check on long builds and jobs from your phone

Published 2026-10-21

Long builds, test suites and data jobs do not care whether you are at your desk. With a terminal on your phone you can start something, leave, and look in on it later.

Run it so it survives

A job started in a terminal session can stop if that session closes. Run long jobs inside tmux or screen so you can reattach from any device.

  1. On your Mac, start a session: tmux new -s build
  2. Start the job inside it, then detach with Ctrl-b then d.
  3. From your phone, open Terminal in Helm and run tmux attach -t build.

Keep the Mac awake

A sleeping Mac cannot finish your build. Turn on keep-awake in the Helm Mac app, and the closed-lid setting if the laptop is shut.

When you need more than a shell

Sometimes the answer is on screen: a dialog waiting for a click, or a design file. Helm Pro lets you see and control the whole screen from your phone, and send files in either direction.
